How can you examine a Hull ID Range?

The Hull Identification Quantity (HIN) can be a 12- or 14-character serial selection that uniquely identifies a boat. The HIN is analogous to your VIN on an automobile.

The main 3 digits are definitely the Producer’s Identification Code (ex. Boat model like Sea Ray, Meridian, and many others.). The four digits after that will be the maker’s serial number to the boat. The third and 4th digits within the finish are classified as the day of manufacture. The letter over the day of the manufacture corresponds for the month on the 12 months, i.e. A = January, B = February, C = March and so on. The final two digits with the HIN selection represent the model year.

All boats manufactured or imported on or right after November 1, 1972, need to bear a HIN, and this HIN has to be recognized for the duration of boat registration. Vessels made or imported ahead of 1972 are EXEMPT as they generally do not need a HIN.

The HIN is located on the metal or plastic plate, typically on the transom of your boat, commonly on the appropriate starboard (appropriate) side of the transom in just two inches of the highest of transom, gunwale, or hull/deck joint, whichever is most affordable.

On vessels with out transoms, or impractical to use transoms, the HIN will likely be affixed to your starboard (proper) outboard facet of hull, aft, in a single foot of the stern and within just two inches of the top of your hull side, gunwale or hull/deck joint, whichever is least expensive.
